Try the following to resolve local client issues with Citrix Workspace App (former Citrix Receiver client): Run the Citrix Receiver Cleanup utility to fully uninstall the existing Citrix Receiver installation. If you are running a Citrix Receiver or Workspace App later than 4.4 version, the Citrix Cleanup Utility is not required. The Citrix client installation has successfully installed. Click ‘YES” to reboot your system 11. With the Citrix client software installed and the computer rebooted, you are ready! To access the Emory Healthcare Virtual Desktop environment, start Internet Explorer (not Edge) and go to https://workspace.emory.org. Run the installer as administrator. Ensure that the computer is connected in the internet. It needs to download and automatically install the required.Net and C redistributable installers. These files are not part of the installer starting with Citrix Workspace version 1904.
The other day a coworker approached me to get a solution that would suppress the popup boxes you get, after a successful Citrix Workspace App install.
This first popup you see it this “Add Account” popup box:
The second popup box you see, is this “Citrix Receiver is now Citrix Workspace App” popup box:
Both popup boxes appear after a reboot of the computer and they both require user interaction, to make them go away.
Some may argue that it’s just one or two clicks and you’ll never see them again, I have however seen that at least the “Add Account” popup box can confuse the user and even trigger a support call. So why bother the user with these popup boxes and potentially generate more support tickets?
According to Citrix you are able to remove the “Add Account” popup box by using a combination of command line switches and registry changes:
https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX135438
This works, I have used it plenty of times and it’s easy to implement when you have 100% control over the computer via a deployment system and/or group policy.
However the command line switch /ALLOWADDSTORE=N prevents any manually configured stores to be added to the list of accounts in Citrix Workspace App. Usually that’s not an issue in a 100% managed environment, as we are able to push Citrix StoreFront store account information to the Citrix Workspace App, either via command line switches or via GPO.
But if you are in a situation where you want to remove the popup boxes, but you don’t want to restrict the manual Citrix StoreFront store account configuration, you need to apply a few registry keys and values in HKCU and not HKLM, as described in the Citrix article.
First off. To remove the “Add Account” via HKCU (User context), apply these registry fixes:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareCitrixReceiver
HideAddAccountOnRestart=1
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareCitrixReceiver
EnableFTU=0
Both values are DWORD values.
To remove the “Citrix Receiver is now Citrix Workspace App” popup box apply this registry fix:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareCitrixSplashscreen
SplashscreenShown=1
This value is a string or REG_SZ value.
I have tested this procedure on Windows 10 v1809, Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2019 with Citrix Workspace App 1812.
Try it out and silence that Citrix Workspace App!
Citrix is a software platform that provides virtualized remote access services. UWHealth and SMPH departments use Citrix as a way to connect users to products like Healthlink (aka Epic, which is the name of the software company who created Healthlink). Psychiatry department employees who need to access medical records will almost certainly need to use Citrix.
ACCESS PERMISSIONS
UWHealth controls who has access to Citrix and how many privileges each user gets. Access requests are submitted with a Computer Systems Authorization Form (CSAR). End users are expected to request access privileges from their supervisors.
HOW TO USE CITRIX
- Use Google Chrome to open this link: https://citrix.uwhealth.org
- Enter your UWHealth credentials (usually in the form abc123)
- If prompted, approve the login on your phone (see here if you do not have multi-factor authentication set up). This might not be required if you are on an internal Wispic or UWHealth network.
- If at any time you see a prompt to Detect Receiver, click “Detect Receiver”If at any time you see a prompt to Open Citrix Workspace Launcher, check the box that says “Always allow citrix.uwhealth.org to open links of this type in the associated app” then click “Open Citrix Workspace Launcher”If at any time you see a prompt called Citrix Workspace – Security Warning, check the box that says “Do not ask me again for this site” and click “Permit use.”If you cannot get the detection to succeed, please see “Citrix Workspace (formerly Receiver) is not installed on my computer” in the Related Topics section below.
- Once logged in, you will see your Citrix Storefront, which displays the apps/resources you have access to through your account. Note, you will only see apps/resources that you have access to, so your storefront might look differently from someone else’s. For example, you might see HealthLink and Outlook here.
- Click on the app/resource you want to open. A new Citrix window should open to launch the app. For example, when launching HealthLink you should see thisfollowed by another login screen where you again enter your UWHealth credentials.

Citrix Remote Access
Access to UWHealth’s Citrix portal is restricted to select trusted networks and managed devices. Remote access to Citrix (e.g. from home, hotels, airports, etc) is allowed under certain conditions. As of December 2020, all remote access users must have their UWHealth accounts configured for multi-factor authentication in order to connect. Please review the policy here:
Note that the policy states the following:
Citrix Workspace Not Installing Apps
UW Health Information Services (IS) enables remote access for all UW Health credentialed providers and physicians in training (GME) to support direct patient care.
Remote access for all other UW Health employees must be approved by a Director, VP or above, unless IS has ongoing authorization for staff in a specific job title on file.
Citrix users who do not have Remote Access privileges must ask their supervisors to request access for them.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
On December 18, 2020, UWHealth increased their security by requiring all Citrix users to activate Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for their accounts. This adds a step to the login process whereby a user approves a login from his or her phone after entering his or her username and password at the Citrix login screen. Remote users (i.e. users attempting to connect from home or other offsite locations) must have MFA enabled in order to log into Citrix.
Information about setting up MFA is here.

Citrix Workspace Cannot Install
Apps only open in my browser
If clicking an app such as HealthLink only opens in your browser and not in a separate Citrix window, you either do not have Citrix Workspace installed or your Citrix settings are configured for the “Light Version.”
- Login to https://citrix.uwhealth.org
- Click the gear icon in the top-right of your screen and select Account Settings
- Locate “Change Citrix Receiver” area on the Settings page. This will tell you how Citrix is currently configured. If you see one of the following, then you need to change this setting by clicking “Change Citrix Receiver”.
- Click “Detect Receiver”
- If you see the following prompt, check the box that says “Always allow citrix.uwhealth.org to open links of this type in the associated app” then click “Open Citrix Workspace Launcher.
- You should now see “Apps and desktops open in your local Citrix Receiver app” in your settings screen.
Use the Light Version to work entirely within your web browser
The Light Version of Citrix runs entirely within your web browser. This is a convenient feature if Citrix Workspace either is not installed on your computer or you are having difficulty getting it to work.
Important notes:
- We do not recommend using the Light Version if possible
- The Light Version has limited functionality
- Copy/paste into and out of the Citrix interface is not possible with the Light Version
- Dictation capabilities with Fluency Direct either will not work at all or will work poorly
- Other functions might not work correctly
To configure the Light Version on your computer, do the following.
- Login to https://citrix.uwhealth.org
- Click the gear icon in the top-right of your screen and select Account Settings
- Locate “Change Citrix Receiver” on the Settings page and click it.
- Select “Use light version”
- You will see the Current status on the Settings page now read “Apps and desktops open in your browser”.To change back to the full version, repeat steps 1-4 and select “Detect Receiver” on step 4. Assuming Citrix Workspace is installed, you should then see the Current status as “Apps and desktops open in your local Citrix Receiver app.
Accessing Remote Desktop via Citrix
Select users with the proper permissions can access a virtual Windows computer on the UWHealth network. This is useful for several reasons, including gaining access to shared network drives on the UWHealth network and using Office products linked to your UWHealth account (such as Outlook).
Instructions for using are here.
Healthlink Freezes or Hangs
If you find that Healthlink is frozen or otherwise non-responsive, it is likely that your session needs to be reset on the back end by UWHealth’s HelpDesk. Please call 608-265-7777 and tell the tech that Healthlink is nonresponsive and ask them to reset your account.
Contact Helpdesk
SMPH and UWHealth are collaborators within the Department of Psychiatry. As a result, different helpdesks service different aspects of clinical computing.
