I feel pretty stupid asking this, but my PC obviously has an HDMI output, but there's an input port as well. I connected my console to my PC and nothing happened, do I need a software to do this?

The only PCs I'm aware of that have HDMI inputs are mostly all-in-ones. If you have one of those, they usually have a button somewhere that switches inputs similar to a normal monitor or TV would. There's no software because it's all done directly by the display.
The HDMI port on your PC is for output - not input.
While you CAN get something like one of those HD game recorder cards that has a HDMI input port, and can be used to display on your PC's screen, the extra hardware introduces close to a second of lag to the signal.
Now, if you monitor has a HDMI port you can connect the PS4 directly to that. If your monitor doesn't have speakers you'll need to send the audio elsewhere. I actually use a 30' HDTV for my computer and PS4.
With no clue what 'PC' you have that has an 'input port as well' for HDMI, how to guess? Wasted question. Download nvidia driver for mac. Parallels for mac 8. Contact maker of that computer, whoever it is, for the customer support you already paid for.

- How to connect a ps4 to a surround sound system which only supports av cable (no hdmi)? So my home theatre only has the option to connect through audio video component cable it doesn't have any other connecting options… I bought an optical to try & connect but goddamit I realized later the home theatre doesn't support that either… If there's any converters available out there to solve this problem I would start enjoying my gaming life again (*insert crying voice*)
