The Forest is on the rise on Steam and is more popular than ever with survival players.

The Forest is alive and well as never before! On Steamcharts.com The survival game just broke its own on December 29, 2020 with 29,909 concurrent players All time record. Previously, in March 2020, the last major lockdown, around 28,000 players played at the same time.

One of the reasons for the great popularity of The Forest, which appeared for the first time on Steam in Early Access in May 2014, we can certainly find the contact restrictions. Like the entire medium of computer games, gloomy survival games are also experiencing an upswing in times of the corona pandemic.

The Forest Game Steam Coupon. CODES (4 days ago) The new discount codes are constantly updated on Couponxoo. The latest ones are on Apr 17, 2021 7 new The Forest Game Steam Coupon results have been found in the last 90 days, which means that every 13, a new The Forest Game Steam Coupon result is figured out. The Forest is an open world survival horror game that is being developed by Endnight Games. The Forest only has cooperative mode as its default game mode. There is no death match mode in the game. Though players can injure and kill each other. Based on this, players could form a set of rules to form their own death match, providing the players follow the set rules.

The Forest was inspired by cult films such as The Descent and Cannibal Holocaust and video games like Don't Starve, and was accepted as part of Steam Greenlight in 2013.

But that’s by no means the only reason for The Forest’s second (third?) Spring. In fact, numerous positive influences come together.

The Forest Steam

What are the reasons?

The successor is coming: With Sons of The Forest, the second part of the successful survival game has been announced, which will be released in 2021. Apparently, some players want to catch up with The Forest, while old players could dare a new run. The successor also recently received a new trailer, which you can watch here:

Steam-Sale: The Forest is currently reduced in the Steam Winter Sale 2020 as much as it has rarely been before. A 50 percent discount pushes the price for the full version to under nine dollars. That should have convinced some new players to give the survival game a chance.

Still a very good game: Developer Endnight Games has maintained The Forest in an exemplary manner and even implemented new features such as a VR mode after the full release. The Forest has aged very well despite several years of early access, as our test for the 2018 release shows:

Not only we, but also the players are convinced of The Forest. On Steam

The Forest got 94 percent positive reviews, the most recent reviews are 96 percent positive.

These reasons make The Forest an evergreen that can be expected years after its release. That should also be good news for the developers, after all, bodes well for the success of the second part. Also in our community, Sons of the Forest is by far the most eagerly awaited survival game in 2021:

The Forest Steam Sale

This is what the author means: How fitting! When colleague Phil pointed out the new steam record to me, my wife and I had almost finished building a log cabin in The Forest and accidentally tore it down completely, beat up various cannibals and almost wet myself in fear in VR (despite co-op support). We were two of the new (and returning) players at a new all-time high.

And in fact, the reasons mentioned in the news were the decisive factor for my brave partner and me to fight for survival in the mysterious forest: The successor is just around the corner, the game is on sale as cheap as it has been in a long time and it belongs still one of the best survival games for single-player and co-op fans six years after the first release.

Surely some players feel like us and share a common, creepy survival experience in lockdown. It is not for nothing that at least 50 percent of all The Forest players on Steam have already tried co-op, as records an achievement that can only be obtained in multiplayer mode. That might sound like a paradox, but with such intense games it’s easy to forget the oppressive present in the pandemic.

The Forest is especially good fun in co-op when you are one of the … more emotional people. Tonight my wife is “allowed” to experience VR mode while I comfortably giggle on the flat screen.

How are you doing? Have you already played The Forest or are you currently playing it actively? If the latter, what are your reasons for returning?

Mods are a form of user-generated content that can be added to The Forest. Being third-party, mods have no affiliation with Endnight Games and thus are not officially supported or endorsed by the developers.

Where to Obtain Mods?[edit | edit source]

Mods can be found on and downloaded from the ModAPI Hub. Similar to Nexus or Steam Workshop, the Hub is a collection of various mods developed by players. As of September of 2019, the Hub is the primary source for all mods for The Forest. The game does not have Workshop support or its own Nexus page.

A launcher for ModAPI hub is available for download from the website to automatically install, manage, and remove mods.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Mods may change, improve, or alter the game in a multitude of forms. Some mods may be as simple as spawning additional enemies, implementing a cheat menu, or reducing resource requirements for buildings. Other mods are more advanced, such as adding several RPG mechanics to the game like classes and spells.

Currently, ModAPI is most likely the only way to add mods to The Forest. It allows for easy installation and removal. If there are any issues installing mods or removing them, you can verify the games cache to fix the game.

Are Mods Safe to Use?[edit | edit source]

Mods are to be used at the user's discretion. They are not officially supported by Endnight Games. Updates to the game are likely to cause errors or conflicts with mods. Users are encouraged to back up their saves before installing mods to their game in case a mod corrupts previous save files.

Otherwise mods are generally safe to use. Before downloading mods, the user should read a mod's installation instructions on their respective ModAPI page and check to see if a mod requires other mods to be installed before using.

If the user encounters issues with mods or with the game after uninstalling mods, they should update their game cache in their Steam Library or reinstall the game.

Griefers[edit | edit source]

As of September 2019, there is no system in place preventing users with mods from joining public games. VAC enabled servers do not keep a modded player from joining. This means, for example, a user with the Ultimate Cheat Menu mod may join your game if you leave your lobby public.

To avoid griefers joining your game set your lobby to private or invite only.

Mods that Add Content to the Game?[edit | edit source]

ModAPI only provides basic content importing such as pictures. As such, extensive content mods require a higher degree of effort on the part of the creator and are more difficult to develop and integrate into the game. Thus they are not very common. ModAPI community has expanded on the topic of content by creating mods that serve as libraries for simplifying the process of importing content. As of now, only one mod uses them to add custom items and weaponry.

This is a list of mods found on the ModAPI website as of the 20th of July 2018.

This list is non-exhaustive and more mods are available from the website that are unlisted here. Note that some mods listed here may be out of date, discontinued, or have been removed.
